Morgan Bates (UCSB): "Use BioPACIFIC MIP to Accelerate Your Research"
Morgan Bates earned her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010 and her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities in 2016. Under the guidance of Professor Marc Hillmyer, her graduate research focused on the synthesis and self-assembly of multifunctional materials. After completing a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Professor Craig Hawker at UC Santa Barbara, Morgan worked in the Dow Materials Institute at UCSB as assistant technical director. In 2020, Morgan joined the BioPACIFIC MIP to leverage her synthetic experience towards the development of unique automated synthesis and characterization capabilities. She leads and supports a number of research projects within the BioPACIFIC MIP collaborative and interfaces directly with users of the UCSB automation facility.
Abstract: BioPolymers, Automated Cellular Infrastructure, Flow, and Integrated Chemistry Materials Innovation Platform (BioPACIFIC MIP) is a national user facility dedicated to enabling research in the field of biomaterials and related synthetic polymers. My talk will describe the automated and high-throughput experimental resources of the BioPACIFIC MIP located at the UCSB and UCLA campuses and how all researchers can gain free access to this unique infrastructure through a proposal-based user program.
